I
was born and raised in San Francisco. I am now 35 years old (oh dear, did I
just admit that on the Internet???), I am married and we have two children –
ages 17 and 9.
I
went to a small high school, where I had good times and made good friends. Over
the years, our lives went separate ways but we’ve come back together through
different means. Molly and I have kids at the same schools and we had been
talking about starting a book club for the better part of a school year. We
talked about it enough on twitter that our high school friends Letty and Marcia
jumped in on it and actually made us do it. We’ve been meeting since February
of 2012 and have shared quite a bit and become very good friends in a short
amount of time. It’s like we picked up right at the end of high school and no
time has lapsed.
I
have a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and a Master’s Degree in Social
Work, not related fields at all. But I know I am a Renaissance Soul… a person
who thrives on a variety of interests and who redefines the accepted meaning of
success. I am also a DONA International trained Birth and Postpartum Doula, and
a Clinical Hypnotherapist. I know… what a combination of interests! I also like
knitting, reading, sewing, cooking, and other crafts. I like to be involved at
my kids’ schools. I have been the classroom mom more times than I’d like to
count.
I
manage chronic medical conditions: I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in
mid-2004, by the fall of 2004 I was also diagnosed with fibromyalgia. So, how
do I do all that I do? (In the voice of Ms. Niecy Nash who used to be on Clean
House) Very stubbornly. I have been quite stubborn the past 8 years and got to
the point of quitting my job because my body didn’t want to let me continue
with a 40 hour+ a week job working in a residential facility with adolescent
boys who all had mental health issues, substance abuse, and problems with the
legal system. I have not worked outside my home for over 4 years. I decided
that enough was enough and I had to listen to my body. So I could say that I
retired at the age of 30.
I
definitely work at home. I am the CEO, CFO, CAO, COO and whatever other
executive title I could possibly have for my family. Basically, I am the mom.
I
enjoy reading very much! I remember going to the library when I was young and
checking out the maximum amount of books and then getting lost in the books
while I devoured them. I’ve always been blessed with the ability to read fast
and have good comprehension. Ever since then I’ve read on and off, in the past
few years since I stopped working I started reading more. For a few years now
I’ve been trying to read 52 books in one year, an average of a book a week.
I’ve never made 52 books in a year but I’ve tried. This year I think I might
actually make it being that I’m at 41 books and we’re in the first week of June.
I enjoy a wide variety of books
but most of all I love a good story with characters that draw me in and move me
to feel something.
